This came across my reader and I think it says everything that we have been discussing in the class. The article basically states that the state standards are too wordy and everything is considered important. SO True.!!!! THere is TOO much for teachers to try to teach, to every child in an individual way.
North Carolina scores dropped when they increased the standards but didn’t increase resources for teachers. I dont’ have a doctorate in education but I could have predicted that one. If you increase the standards and still teach the same old way with no new ideas, resources, or materials what did they expect?
It discusses that teachers are ‘prisoners of papers’. I don’t Think I have to explain that one. My desk is stacked and i only have 2 classes. I can’t imagine what teachers do with 6 classses a day… UUGGG.
The article discusses ‘tagging’ state standards on the top 10 important standards…. AMEN!!!
